National Planetarium

The National Planetarium or Planetarium Negara is a blue-domed structure that is located on top of a hill near the Kuala Lumpur Bird Park. It was opened to public in 1994.  The Planetarium is managed and owned by the Ministry of Science, Technology and the Environment (MOSTI)

One of the major highlight of this place is a space theatre. It screens Imax-style films that are projected on the interior part of the blue dome. Equipped with the reclining seats, the visitors will be able to enjoy the enhanced view of the films. However, one has to pay to enter the theater.

Besides space theater, the planetarium has other interesting attractions to offer. In the main hall, there are permanent exhibits related to space science. Things like space engine, the inner part of space shuttle, space suits, the replica of the satellites and many more space related items can be found here.

The visitors can also take the lift to the top of the building to enjoy the view of the surrounding area in the observatory.  There is a 14-inch telescope is located in the observatory.

At the outer building, there is a space theme park filled with replicas of ancient observatories like the ancient sundials and the Stonehenge.

The planetarium is accessible by public transportation. The nearest stations are Muzium Negara MRT Station and Kuala Lumpur KTM Komuter Station.

We spent an overall an hour and a half at Planetarium Negara. Overall, I would say it's a good place to go with older kids who would appreciate the scientific displays and everything space-related.
