Panggung Bandaraya DBKL

Panggung Bandaraya DBKL is a more than 100 years historical theatre hall located across the Merdeka Square in Kuala Lumpur .

The theatre's building was designed by a colonial government architect, A.B Hubback. The same architect who designed the Jamek Mosque.

It was built for production stages such as plays and musicals and still actively hosting theater and other type of art performances till today.

In 1992 a fire broke out and destroyed the entire interior of the theatre The theater was restored soon after by the City Hall's designers and builders. During the restoration, several significant modifications to the furnishings and the sound system were integrated.

To date the Panggung Bandaraya is gazetted as a heritage building under the Antiquities Act,to preserve its Moorish façade. The theater is currently managed DBKL.

Hear From Others

Though the theatre was gutted in 1992 by fire, the reconstruction and restoration respected its ornate and regal appearance and it still possesses the spirit breathed into it through countless performances.

The entrance hall looks very good with a golden dome ceiling and stained glass windows. The ceiling in the theatre is unique in its design and colors.
